The Global Security Policy Seminar at IIS had the great pleasure to host a presentation by Vice Admiral Linda Fagan, Pacific Area Commander of the United States Coast Guard on November 18, 2020. Her military and civil responsibilities span two thirds of the Earth's surface—from the Rocky Mountains to the east coast of Africa—and include the Arctic Ocean, where climate change is generating both economic opportunity and geopolitical friction. In this virtual Master Class, Vice Admiral Fagan discussed the U.S. Coast Guard’s contributions to advance our US national security and economic interests, with a focus on high-latitude operations. Participants included IIS-affiliated faculty and students, who appreciated the opportunity to engage with a senior military commander who is presently exercising significant responsibilities across a variety of global areas and issues.
