Evan Reade ('79) is a career diplomat and national security professional with over three decades of service across the U.S. Department of State, the National Security Council, and the U.S. military. His foreign service postings span four continents, including assignments as Deputy Counselor for Political-Military Affairs at the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad, First Secretary at the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo, and Consul General and Deputy Permanent Observer to the Council of Europe in Strasbourg.
At the White House, he served as Director for Western Europe on the National Security Council and as a Duty Officer in the White House Situation Room. His expertise spans NATO and European security policy, embassy operations, and political-military affairs, and he has brought that experience to military training as a Subject Matter Expert at the U.S. Army National Training Center.
Since 2019, he has served as International Affairs Advisor to California Lieutenant Governor Eleni Kounalakis. Before his diplomatic career, Reade practiced law as a litigation associate at Pillsbury, Madison & Sutro in San Francisco.
