Breslauer Graduate Conversation Group Award

Description: 

Thanks to the generous support of Mr. Harry Rowe, the Breslauer Graduate Conversation Group Award provides funding support for bimonthly meetings of groups of at least 10 graduate students across various diciplines to gather and discuss commonalities in their work.  

Supported Activities:  If selected, each group:

  • Must meet on a bimonthly basis and include a minimum of 10 graduate students.  
  • May invite one outside speaker per semester (travel costs will be funded by the Institute, as part of the award).  

The grant will not run for more than one year, and an assessment will be conducted at the end of the first semester to evaluate continued funding support for the following semester. 

Application Details: 

The IIS Grant Committee will review all applications, which should include:

1.  Group members’ names, departments, and CVs (please indicate group coordinator);
2.  A recommendation letter for the group coordinator, written by a faculty member;
3.  Proposed research theme, itemized budget, and schedule/activities (i.e. discussion topics, texts to read, name of outside speaker, etc).
 
Submission:  E-mail all required application components (as detailed above) as one .pdf document to iis.grants@berkeley.edu.  Please ask your recommender to e-mail the recommendation letter directly to iis.grants@berkeley.edu.  
Eligibility: 
All current UC Berkeley graduate students from all disciplines are encouraged to apply.
Award Amount: 
Each selected group will receive $1,000 to cover associated costs (research, resource, speaker). Each group coordinator will also receive a $250 award.
